Kim Diehnelt established her craft as a conductor and artistic coach in Finland and Switzerland where she worked with the South Bohemian Chamber Orchestra, and Russian and Baltic ensembles. In Helsinki, Ms. Diehnelt founded the Helsinki Camerata, a group dedicated to a chamber music approach to orchestral works. She was Director of Chamber Music at the Musicology Department of Helsinki University and Music Director of the Helsinki Community College Orchestra.
In the United States, Ms. Diehnelt has been Music Director of the Southwest Minnesota Orchestra, Opera Millennium (MN), and the Chicago Reading Orchestra. Ms. Diehnelt was selected to attend the American Academy of Conducting at Aspen with David Zinman in 2002. Kim is currently the Music Director of the South Loop Symphony, Chicago, IL.
Ms. Diehnelt is an authority on the music of Edward Elgar. The Elgar Society in England has sponsored Kim’s conducting of Elgar’s Symphony No. 1, the tone-poem In the South, and the Cockaigne Overture. Kim regularly speaks on Elgar: His story, his music, coaches performers on Elgar's works, and sponsors recitals and live radio broadcasts of Elgar's chamber music. In 2010, Ms. Diehnelt was asked to be a founding member of the Elgar Society - North America Branch; she presented Podium Time with Elgar at the inaugural conference in March, 2010.

Works
The British composer Edward Elgar is known in the States today only through his “Enigma Variations” or the famous “Pomp and Circumstance” march tune. The Variations were written before 1900, and there is much more orchestral repertoire from the 30 years that followed. Elgar’s temperament could swing from high spirits and wittiness to complete despondency and doom. Elgar’s works are very personal, with much more rubato and full-bloodedness than expected. His music speaks to humanity.
Elgar was a romantic composer from the time of Mahler and Strauss, around the turn of the century. He didn’t invent a new language of music, but furthered the orchestra’s palette through his self-taught style of composing and hands-on knowledge of each individual instrument. He raised the orchestra’s level of expression.

The Classical Connoisseur
"The Classical Connoisseur fills an urgent need of today’s listener. Audiences are hungry to explore what it is they are hearing – not in terms of the anatomy of music, but through discovering music’s ability to create metaphor - and enchantment."
As the Classical Connoisseur Maestra Kim helps people experience the magic of music. In a dynamic style that awakens the palette, Kim “conducts” listeners through music samples and live performances, as she explores how composers and musicians create meaning within sounds. Only the Classical Connoisseur offers listeners the magic of music.
